A Time to Rejoice & Remember:                Advent - December 3

12/3/2016

We invite you and your family to join us for advent this season, as we consider Christmas through the lens of Scripture. As we celebrate the birth of the Christchild, we will look as a different aspect of his coming each day. Each day also has a downloadable coloring picture for children to color as they listen, and then hang on the tree as a reminder! We also suggest a song to listen to, play, or sing along with. Most of these can be found in a hymnal to play at home, or on youtube.com - to sing along with! Children old enough to read might enjoy reading the Scripture as well. We hope this simple journey through Scripture helps you and your family to focus on Christ this season - He truly is The Greatest Gift.
Ornament: An ark & rainbow (Remind us of God's Promises)
Scripture Reading: Genesis 6:5-8, 7:17-23; 9:16 & Romans 6:23
Songs :
Rise & Shine, Standing on the Promises

When people sin, God still loves them, but it makes Him sad. After Adam & Eve went out from the garden to work, sin kept getting worse. More and more people did not love God and did not want to do what He wanted them to do. God was very sad indeed. Finally, it got so bad, that there was only one man left, and his family, who loved God and did what was right. Do you know his name? (Noah)
God had to find a way to remove sin from the world. So, He told Noah to build a very big boat called an ark. Noah did just what God said and built that ark. Noah and his family got in that ark, and so did some of every kind of animal. Then God sent rain and the whole world flooded. The people who were not in the ark drowned.
The Bible tells us what the punishment for sin is (Rom 6:23 - death). But, just like God made a way to save Noah – God has made a way to life for us! If we are IN Jesus, like Noah was IN the ark, we are safe! God promises us life in Jesus.
When the flood was over, God made a promise not to send another flood to destroy the world. As a reminder of this promise, He put a rainbow in the sky. Whenever we see a rainbow, we should remember that God keeps His promises, and He promises to give us life because of Jesus!
 Questions:
  • Can you think of a promise that God has kept? (sending Jesus)
  • Did God keep His promise to Noah, too?
  • Can we trust God to always keep His promises?
Prayer: Thank You, Almighty God, for keeping Your promises. Thank You especially for promising to forgive our sins if we believe in Jesus. Help us, Lord, to live lives that are pleasing to You. Amen.
