My heart aches and my knees are worn with appealing to the Lord for mercy and healing for our country; economically, morally, and in our relationship with Israel. Did He not hear our 40 days of prayer and fasting for leaders who shares the Godly values our nation was founded upon? I could feel the breaking of the hearts of about 50% of the nation, while TV pundits laughed giddily and talk show hosts congratulated themselves on all those they convinced through bawdy jokes and half-truths.
Then, as I was before the Lord this morning, some verses came to mind. Luke 21: 28 tells us that "When these things begin to happen, look up and lift your heads, because your redemption draws near." It was one of those ah-ha moments. - I must refocus on Jesus. When I see things happening that appear to match Biblical prophecy, it may mean we're in for a heck of a ride and we'd better be ready. He warned us to watch for this. We cannot know the day or hour, but we are commanded to know the season.
The second verse that came to mind had the same message: In Matthew 14:22-33 Peter asks to walk on the water to Jesus. While his eyes were on the Lord he walked on the sea without difficulty, but when he began to look around him at the storm and crashing waves he began to sink. Yet Jesus caught him and said "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" There it is again, it matters where our focus is and if it isn't squarely on Jesus we shall surely sink.
It isn't the natural surface tension of the water that supported Peter, it was Jesus. And it won't be the government that saves us - it will be Jesus. - Let us rest in Him and quiet our hearts. After all, if our faith is to be tested it won't be in the good times. It will be in times like these.
Lastly, I was reminded that God is still able to change the course of rivers and the minds of kings. Let us pray earnestly for our government and our re-elected president that there might be peace and righteousness in our land.
Blessings,
