There is something about flipping the calendar over to “December” that makes our hearts flutter – Christmas is coming! For those of us who celebrate Jesus and know the power of His saving grace, Christmas is a celebration of His coming into the world. Others may join in the celebration with parties, gifts, decorations, and singing; but unless they have Jesus, they just cannot know the joy that Christmas brings to a believer.
The events surrounding and leading up to His birth are overwhelming, as befits the joyful preparation for the arrival of this very unusual babe. For the King of Glory, maker of Heaven and Earth and the one who said, “Let us make man in our image” was readying to come to earth, take on Himself the sin and shame of all mankind to save this world, which was lost. It is certainly fitting to be joyfully celebrating as the days draw near to His birthday!
God in Heaven first told of Christ’s coming thousands of years before, while Adam and Eve yet lived in the garden. In Genesis 3, He promised this One would crush the head of evil in this world, and rescue men from their own flesh. The first great fact of this season is that mankind’s need of a savior is what set the wheels in motion for the greatest gift ever given to come to earth. Isn't that something to celebrate too - that God had a plan to rescue us from our sin? But, not everyone knows this incredible fact.
Have you ever thought of Christmas as the perfect time to naturally share the hope of Christ with a friend, neighbor, or family member? What an easy thing - to invite a friend to a children's choir presentation, or to ask a neighbor to a Christmas Eve service. We are so careful, sometimes, not to step on the philosophical toes of our friends that we miss these easy opportunities. We encourage you to think who you might invite to church this Sunday, or for Christmas Eve service. Many folks who might not go otherwise, would love to come in to sing the old familiar Christmas Carols and hear the old, old story!
For Jesus, all those years ago, there was no room in the inn. But Scripture tells us that He is knocking yet, on the doors of hearts, seeking to come into the lives of those who do not yet call Him Lord. Christmas is a perfect time to share the reason for your faith in a loving, kind, tender way. Let's make sure there is room in our lives, room in our CHRISTMAS...for Jesus!
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6
Lord of All, thank You for coming into a dark and needy world to bring light, to bring life, and to bring hope. Help us keep You in the center of our hearts this December. Help us to center our thoughts and celebrations around Your incarnation, and to speak boldly of your love for mankind that compelled you to come to earth! Thank You, Jesus, for loving us this much! For the sake of Your glory, amen.
Blessings,
Patti & Cara
