Hope

As children, Christmas is all about the lights, the presents, and the fun. Little ones can glimpse the deeper meaning, but let’s face it – it’s pretty hard to get past all those shiny packages with their names written on them! And of course as adults, we love the beauty of Christmas, too. My family loves to walk up and down a local street where every single house decks the halls, the rooftops and each tree and walkway. We aren’t the only ones – the street is crowded with laughing families walking up and down, and slow-moving cars with grandpas at the wheel. We do love Christmas.

But what is it about it that calls to our hearts? It is hope.

Our Papa used to call Genesis Chapter 3 the “seed plot” of the Bible. He said nearly every critical doctrine has its seeds in the soil of the third chapter of the first book of the Holy Scriptures. And, sure enough, we find the hope of mankind sown in Genesis 3:15.

Here in the third chapter, Adam and Eve fell into sin, taking the heirs of humanity into that pit with them. Here is where sin begins, here is where heartache marks men and women with pain and suffering and both physical and spiritual death.

But, our God also provides that here in what has to be one of the saddest episodes in human history, here also begins our hope. God loves us, friends. He loves us so much that from the instant of our death sentence, he provided the way to back to Him!

Listen to these glorious words, part of the sentence pronounced upon the serpent, from Genesis 3:15

 “And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
    and you will strike his heel.”

There it is, friends. Hope entered the world in this promise of redemption. In this, the first promise of a Savior, we find the only way to God. The very day our predecessors in this human life broke fellowship through disobedience, God already had a plan to make a way for us to be back with him.

Hope is what Christmas is all about. It is what calls us and comforts us in Christmas, and it is only found in Jesus.

Dearest Lord, I am so thankful that we have HOPE in You! Praise Your name for providing a way of repentance through humbling yourself and coming to earth as a babe in Bethlehem. Thank you that even as man was falling away from You, You were pursuing mankind. My heart overflows with gratitude, Lord. Amen.

Share your hope with someone who needs it this Christmas season!

For His Glory,

Cara and Patti
