Now, the last few years have been difficult ones. To be honest, while my family is relying fully on God, we must also be disciplined to guard our hearts and minds in order to remain at peace. Yet the truth – the unvarnished, eternal, REAL truth – is that we are rich. We are rich, and I don’t mean just in that Sunday-morning-dressed-up sense. I mean, we are rich in blessings in a way that astounds me. If I can get my eyes off the future long enough to just look around, I can see that. When I truly see what God is doing in our lives, I am humbled, awed, and deeply grateful. What about you?
There’s an old hymn that our Nana and Papa used to sing, called “Count Your Blessings.” It talks about counting our blessings, naming them one by one, calling them out loud, sharing the blessing of blessing by reciting them, and in doing so to lift our eyes from our troubles to our Lord.
We challenge you - count your blessings! As Thanksgiving approaches - give thanks!
Lift your eyes from your troubles to your Lord in the next two weeks. Between today and Thanksgiving Day choose to find the things that matter eternally. Then, will you recount them with us? Will you share your blessings, so that we may be blessed too?
Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things;
let this be known to all the world.
Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion,
for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.
– Isaiah 12:4-6
We are blessed to have such wonderful fellowship with brothers and sisters in the Lord!
